How to Remove Semi-Permanent Nail Polish at Home

Removing semi-permanent nail polish at home can be simple and effective if you follow the right steps. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you safely remove your semi-permanent nail polish without damaging your nails.

What You'll Need:

  • Acetone-based nail polish remover

  • Cotton balls or pads

  • Aluminum foil

  • Cuticle oil or moisturizing nail treatment

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Gather all your supplies and set up a clean, well-lit workspace. Make sure you have good ventilation as acetone can be strong-smelling.

Step 2: Soak Cotton Balls/Pads

Soak small pieces of cotton balls or pads in acetone-based nail polish remover.

Step 3: Apply to Nails

Place the soaked cotton balls or pads over your nails, ensuring that the entire nail surface is covered.

Step 4: Wrap with Foil

Wrap small pieces of aluminum foil around each fingertip to hold the soaked cotton balls/pads in place. This helps to create a more concentrated and targeted removal process.

Step 5: Wait

Let the acetone-soaked cotton balls/pads sit on your nails for 10-15 minutes. This will allow the semi-permanent nail polish to soften and become easier to remove.

Step 6: Remove Foil and Cotton

After 10-15 minutes, gently press down on the nail and twist the foil to remove it. Most of the semi-permanent nail polish should now easily come off with the cotton. If not, you can gently use an orangewood stick or a metal cuticle pusher to help lift the nail polish, being careful not to damage your natural nails.

Step 7: Wipe and Moisturize

Using a fresh cotton ball or pad soaked in nail polish remover, gently wipe off any remaining nail polish. Once all the polish is removed, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Apply a nourishing cuticle oil or moisturizing nail treatment to rehydrate your nails and cuticles, as acetone can be drying.
By following these steps, you can safely and effectively remove semi-permanent nail polish at home. Remember to moisturize your nails and cuticles after the process to keep them healthy and strong.

A nail care treatment is crucial after removing the semi-permanent nail polish to nourish and strengthen the nails, preventing them from becoming brittle and weak. It helps to replenish moisture and essential nutrients, promoting healthy nail growth and ensuring that the nails remain resilient and vibrant.
